Chapter Fifteen

Weston saw the look on Alisa’s face. Alarm, desperation, sheer panic.

He wanted to pull out his gun and yank Alisa’s sister away from Bones, despite her desire to stay.

But, he’d be dead before Alisa had time to scream.

Bones had walked into this bar with his usual contingent of guns surrounding him.

Weston not only wouldn’t get Meghan to safety but Alisa probably would end up dead.

Or at least dragged out the door along with her little sister to God knew what end.

Not to mention blowing the coalition’s chance to put Bones away once and for all. And maybe the guy behind him. The guy they’d been hunting for far too long.

But, the hurt in Alisa’s eyes spurred him to action. He looked around for Luke.

No luck; he had apparently slipped out after their conversation.

Forrester was in the corner as his backup but the two of them weren’t enough. Forrester’s eyes glared a dark warning to him. The guy could read him too easily these days.

Forrester was feeling a woman-induced pain of his own. As if his personal pain made him more sensitive to that of others, he looked right at Weston and knew his goal.

To take down a crew like this took extensive preparation. Guns planted all around to burst out of the background to prevent the deaths of multiple cops.

Neither he nor Alisa stood a chance if all hell broke loose in this confined space. If Meghan didn’t get caught in the crossfire, she would probably break down, revealing her connection to Alisa.

Bones might kill Meghan or just go ahead and give her a forceful shove into prostitution without the steady decline he preferred with his young girls.

It wouldn’t turn out well for anybody.

Weston’s stomach roiled with acid, and the need for Bones’ blood. He knew the crazed look crouching deep in Alisa’s eyes. Had felt it when his own sister had disappeared and then later turned up dead.

He pushed away from the bar. Sauntering, he approached Bones’ group, throwing an arm around Alisa.

Bones looked up. “I thought we finished our business.”

Weston nodded. “Just came over to introduce my girl to you.” He tilted his head at Alisa. “This is Brandy.”

Meghan’s eyes rounded.

Hopefully in the bathroom, she hadn’t already introduced Alisa by her real name to Barbie.

“So, you do like girls.” Bones let loose with a loud guffaw that bounced around the bar. Other people laughed along with him, even tables over where they couldn’t possibly have heard him.

Bones looked Alisa up and down with a slow glance that made Weston want to knock his teeth down his throat. But, he held the impulse in check.

The situation was already completely out of control, complicated beyond belief.

If he hadn’t slept with Alisa, the situation wouldn’t have gotten so tangled with unnecessary emotion. He’d introduced unneeded elements into an undercover operation.

And like a textbook example from hell, everything had spiraled into this situation where it was all about anything except the original plan to bring down a big-time drug dealer.

But, he
